Estimator

Main mandate

The estimator is responsible for providing accurate estimates of the costs associated with carrying out a construction project.

Your challenges

  • Analysis of project documents: Examine plans, specifications and other project documents to understand requirements and technical aspects.
 
  • Quantification of materials and labor: Determine the quantity of materials required, the estimated duration of the work and the associated labor costs.
 
  • Cost evaluation: Estimate direct costs (materials, labor, equipment) and indirect costs (overheads, profits, taxes) associated with the project.
 
  • Risk analysis: Identify and evaluate potential risks that could influence project costs.
 
  • Bid preparation:Compile all necessary information to create complete and competitive bids in response to calls for tender.
 
  • Collaboration with project team:Work closely with engineers, architects, project managers and other stakeholders to obtain necessary information and clarifications.
 
  • Document management: Maintain accurate and organized documentation of estimates, specifications and correspondence related to project costs.
 
  • Post-bid follow-up: Collaborate with the project management team to clarify issues, negotiate terms and conditions, and provide updates as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Degree in civil engineering, construction engineering, project management or related field
  • Previous experience in a similar role will be considered a strong asset.
  Technical skills
  • Thorough understanding of construction techniques, materials and methods, as well as reading plans and specifications.
  • Ability to analyze project details, identify key variables and anticipate potential risks;
  • Proficiency in estimating software, spreadsheets and project management tools.
Interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet strict bid deadlines.
